Michael Crawford

Position/Title: Communications Coordinator
Years at TraCS: It'll be one year in June
Years at UNC: I've worked here on and off for more than ten years, went to school here before that, and have been a fan since birth!

Background

I'm originally from... Shelby, NC.

When I was little I dreamed of being... When I was a kid I wanted to work for either Walt Disney Imagineering on theme parks or for the Jet Propulsion Lab working on space probes. I wasn't good enough at math for the space stuff, but thankfully I have been able to work with WDI! (And even hang out a little at JPL, too.)

Work

Describe what you do at work and what you enjoy about it. I help get the word out about all the events and goings-on at TraCS. It's a lot of fun working with people from all across TraCS, learning about the many things we do, and helping promote them all across campus.

Describe an interesting day at work for you. The good thing is that there's always a lot going on at TraCS so I usually have a variety of things to do. It's always fun to get the word out about a new event and watch the registration numbers tick upwards. And the best days are when we have a team meeting so I can call in and hear from all my great communications team members — they're the best.

I work from my home, so in my office space I have... books. Lots of books. And stuff. Basically, my office looks like a bookstore and a toy store both blew up and I decided to live in the fallout.

Personal

Something most people don't know about me is... between my stints at UNC (and currently in my spare time) I've been a writer for Disney, so if you go on vacation at Walt Disney World there's a chance you might read something I've written!

One thing on my bucket list is... lots and lots of travel. There are always more places to go, and I want to see as much as possible.

I'm currently reading... The Story of English, a history of the English language and how it developed. Interesting stuff!

If I could wake up tomorrow as an expert in a new skill, I'd like to be an expert in... I can never decide between being able to fluently speak every language, or being able to play every musical instrument.

If I could have one super power, it would be... Flight seems like the obvious choice, but super speed would be handy too...

What word did you misspell in a spelling bee? Cemetery. In third grade. It's the one word I'll never misspell again.

What is your favorite movie? Casablanca. Hard to beat the classics.
